Our history

Established in 2000.

Blackwater Bike Shop started as Piedmont Bike Shop in March of 2000. It has been operated by Davy Hazlegrove since 2001. Shortly after acquiring ownership of the business in 2002, the name was changed to separate from the Piedmont Bike Shop of Farmville, VA (now closed). The shop grew steadily until a major setback in 2009 - a total loss fire. Luckily, good insurance replaced bikes for our customers and helped get us back on track. We opened our doors 3 months later in our current building which more than doubled our showroom and gave plenty of warehouse room. We now have over 6000 sq ft of space dedicated to being the best bike shop with the best selection around. Now that we have rebuilt, we spend as much time as we can offering road and mountain bike group rides, performing member duties with Greater Lynchburg Off-road Cyclists and on the Greenway Alliance which helps bring bike facilities to fruition, and maintaining our local mountain bike trails, Ask us how you can get involved in your bike community!
